What’s for dinner? Beef satay skewers with a peanut sauce

Not sure what to make for dinner this evening? We’re trying something nutty and nice.

Serves 4

You’ll need: 800g rump steak, sliced in strips; 80ml soy sauce; 2 tablespoons oil; 2 garlic cloves, crushed; 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger.

For the peanut sauce – 250ml pineapple juice; 250g smooth peanut butter; ½ teaspoon garlic powder; ½ teaspoon onion powder; 2 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce; 3 tablespoons soy sauce.

How to:

Thread the steak onto the skewers, bunching them thickly along with three-quarters of the skewer. Place in a shallow non-metallic dish.

Mix the soy sauce, oil, garlic and ginger together and pour over the skewers. Cover and place in the fridge for at least 20 minutes. Remove the skewers from the marinade and grill or braai for about 8–10 minutes, or until tender, turning the skewers occasionally.

To make the peanut sauce, combine the juice, peanut butter, garlic and onion powders and sauces in a small saucepan and stir over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until smooth. Serve warm with the satay stick with Maggi 2-Minute Noodles. Garnish with chillies if you like.
