One of the finalist in the Miss Mogul Inter Africa, Ntokozo Shilenge, and her team went to Miracle Day Care Centre to give back to the children and residents of Jackson informal settlement on June 19.

“We went to the daycare to distribute clothes that I collected from different organisations and the community. I felt I could not do it alone and asked some ladies, also finalists in the pageant, to assist me in collecting clothes for the people,” said Shilenge, a resident from Vosloorus.

Mask were also distributed by Ntokozo Shilenge.

She explained this is one of the tasks they are expected to do during the pageant, and with all the help they had, it turned out to be a success.

“Clothes were donated for all the children and adults. The clothing we received were in good condition and since it is winter, it could not come at a better time. “We also cooked soup which we served with bread on the day.”

The finalists also had activities lined up where they were dancing, singing and bringing out great entertainment.
“We interacted with the community to hear their issues and what they need help with. It was a wonderful experience having to engage with them,” she said.

She told the CHRONICLE they are planning to go back in August for a catch-up meeting and do the necessary work.

“We are planning to raise awareness for them where we will be collecting toiletries and sanitary pads. As a Mogul Inter Africa finalist, this was the first time making a difference in the community. We are planning more visits,” she said.

In August they are planning to do things a little differently, with more fun planned for the children. They also would like to assist in improving their vegetable garden.

The community came out to get clothes.

“We want to plant more vegetables for them and we want to see more growth and improvement at the day care. We feel like it needs more work, especially because it is a place for children,” she said.
