Two arrested for hijacking

Two suspects were arrested in Duduza after they hijacked a taxi.

Police arrested two men for hijacking a taxi in Duduza on June 18.

The arrest was due to swift action from SAPS members.

According to the owner of the vehicle, Thabo Gima, he was driving his white Toyota Corolla when he stopped to pick up two men, who told him they wanted to go to Zamani.

As he drove, one of the men pointed a firearm at his head and he was ordered to stop.

Gima was then forced onto the backseat, where he was further assaulted with the firearm.

The men demanded money from Gima.

The pair eventually threw Gima from the moving vehicle along Tonk Meter Road.

Gima ran to the Duduza Police Station to report the incident.

The vehicle was recovered after a few hours by police members in Tsakani, where the two men were arrested.

The Duduza SAPS wishes to sensitise local taxi operators to be extra vigilant when picking up passengers, especially when it is dark.
