Ten-year sentence for cellphone robber

Ben Mndaweni (21) was sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbing a teenager of his cellphone.

Ben Mndaweni (21) was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in the Nigel Magistrate’s Court on April 14 for robbing a teenager of his cellphone at a Wi-Fi hot spot at Thandi Sibeko Secondary School in Duduza.

The incident took place on December 4.

The victim was with a number of other children using the Wi-Fi service when Mndaweni pulled out a knife and held the boy against the wall, taking his cellphone.

Duduza police members Sgt Harry Manaka and Busisiwe Mntambo traced and arrested Mndaweni later that same evening.
