WATCH: Katlego tells us about her pad-drive, a book and her own cosmetic line

"I want women to embrace the diamond they are.”

Katlego Moeng (15) from Glenvista is an ambitious young lady who aspires to do big things.

“I have a pad-drive called She is Power, where we go around to orphanages and schools to hand out sanitary pads.”

Their first pad-drive was held on January 24 at Ikageng Itereleng Aids Ministry.

“It was a wonderful experience but painful as well to see that the country has so many problems. We forget how most girls need sanitary products and how it impacts women economically, financially and mentally,” she said.

Katlego said she started the drive because she is passionate about helping and inspiring young girls, making sure they all succeed together.

“I don’t like to see young girls suffer because they are the future,” she said.

Next up

“We will be having the next pad-drive on March 1 at a home in Turffontein,” said Katlego.

They will also try to make donations twice a month, but for now, they still have challenges getting sponsors.

“With our first donations, we contacted Always and registered to receive sanitary pads. We are pushing to do more pad-drives and get other sponsors on board once they see what we are trying to achieve to help young girls,” said Katlego.

Many talents

Katlego is also an aspiring writer who wrote a book at the age of 12. The book is about life stories and reality.

“The name of the book is My Unknown Strength. The reason for the title was to express the bad experiences I have endured growing up. I was bullied at school because of my skin colour and height.“The purpose of writing the book was to tell my story and let others know who suffer from the same experiences that they are not alone. There is a solution,” she said.

“The book is to motivate and help people understand that it is going to be okay.”

She also has a cosmetic line, which will be available soon.

“It is called Black Diamond. I have always been passionate about skin and want to inspire women to be confident in every way.

“My stepfather helped me with the name. He changed my perspective of seeing my skin colour as something positive despite being bullied.

“I called it Black Diamond because it is special and rare and I want women to embrace the diamond they are,” said Katlego.

The future

Katlego dream is that her foundation will keep on growing, enabling her to help women all over the country. She wants to be involved in bringing back women’s confidence and making their futures bright.

“I also want to donate food and educate women about their bodies.”

Katlego is thus a proud motivational speaker and dark-skinned activist.

“You can either be optimistic or negative about every single thing,” said Katlego.
