EMPD nabs pair and recovers hijacked car

The EMPD specialised and intervention units arrested two male suspects on February 16 in Leondale.

The members also recovered an SUV, which was reported hijacked from the owner in Katlehong at Monisi Section earlier on the day.

Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said the arrest was made possible by a concerned community member who approached the officers while patrolling.

“They were approached regarding a suspicious house on Blesbok Street, which was being visited by shady characters during the early hours of the morning. Not long, a dark German-make SUV with Mpumalanga registration plates was seen entering at high speed,” he said.

Without hesitation, Mokheseng said the officers responded and apprehended two house occupants.

“They were handcuffed after officers uncovered a 90 per cent stripped blue sought BMW X1 SUV. The two face charges of possession of robbed or hijacked motor vehicle. They were marched to Alberton Police Station,” he said.

The arrested pair is soon to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
