Suspect caught by Fidelity ADT officer in Robertsham

Two suspects gained access to a business property on Harry Street, Robertsham, and found an armed guard in the guardhouse.

On February 12 two suspects gained access to a business property on Harry Street, Robertsham, and found an armed guard in the guardhouse.

They confronted the guard, assaulted him and a struggle ensued. The suspects overpowered the guard, fired the gun and fled the scene.

In an attempt to get away, the suspects entered the property next door, which was being guarded by Fidelity ADT.
Fidelity ADT reaction officer Eric Mpele, who was on duty, had already heard the gunshot and called for backup.

He apprehended one of the suspects, who was hiding on top of a container. The stolen firearm was also recovered.
The suspect was handed over to Sgt Hadebe at Booysen SAPS.

Milly Barnard, community development manager for Fidelity ADT, said arrests such as this send a strong message to the community.

“Every arrest sends a clear message that crime will not be tolerated. When local security companies and the police work hand-in-hand there is always a positive difference. I commend officer Mpele for his professionalism and for assisting his fellow industry colleagues,” she said.
