Iconic football clubs in the South give fans a chance to win big

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates give fans a chance to win

In the ultimate tribute to an era of iconic dominance by Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs that is based on the South Vodacom’s new Sisonke Siya Winna campaign, fans will be given the chance to own two of the most iconic symbols of Soweto history, a custom-rebuilt Gusheshe and Kentucky Rounder.

For over 20 years, Vodacom has brought together fans of the two most iconic football clubs in the South and the country around their shared passion for their teams. It’s a passion born on the streets of the South and Soweto, where the Gusheshe and Kentucky Rounder embody a similar cultural identity.

And at the end of this season, one Orlando Pirates fan will be handed the keys to a vintage Gusheshe custom-designed in team colours, while a Kaizer Chiefs fan will slide into the driver’s seat of an equally iconic Kentucky Rounder, modelled on the team’s identity.

This season is all about icons, and the fans’ journey towards the iconic status of their own.

“The Sisonke Siya Winna campaign is a celebration of the collective fans of both of these iconic clubs and the shared history that has created this incredible cultural identity around Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs,” said Sibongile Mthimunye, senior soccer specialist for Vodacom.

“As much as these two teams compete and the fans are rivals, there is a shared history that has made them icons. The fans live this through their own identity, and the Sisonke Siya Winna campaign will give them the chance to enrich their experience with their own piece of the iconic culture of Soweto.”

The Gusheshe and Kentucky Rounder are two of the most iconic vehicles in Soweto culture, and Brad Abrahams has been given the task of restoring and customising the two team vehicles that will be won by two lucky fans.

“As part of our rebuild, we tear the whole car apart and then begin the process of refreshing it, from making sure the body is solid to going through the engine and replacing the seals, bearings, belts and oils.

“We rebuild it from the ground up and update the technology where we can, such as a more modernised suspension. I’m not going to give away too much, but on the Gusheshe for example, we have slight hints of the Orlando Pirates brand coming through with the team logo on the wheels,” said Abrahams.
