Two suspects arrested, firearm recovered

Booysens SAPS communications officer Capt Lorraine van Emmerik said both suspects were placed under arrest and investigations are ongoing.

Members of the anti-hijacking task team were patrolling along Booysens Road on January 26 at about 3.30 pm when they noticed a blue Toyota Corolla with four unknown males inside.

The members made a U-turn and stopped the said vehicle. They asked the occupants to get out of the vehicle so they could search the car.

Three suspects ran and the remaining suspect, who was still in the car, drove away. The members gave chase and were able to catch one suspect, who was found with a firearm in his possession. He was asked to produce a licence but could not.

The firearm serial number was checked and it was found that it was wanted in a case reported in Honeydew.

The anti-hijacking task team gave a look-out for the vehicle and members of Booysens SAPS Vispol, who were driving down the road, saw it. They gave chase and caught the suspect.

The vehicle was searched and a large number of different car keys were found.

The driver was questioned about the keys and he could not answer. There were also reflector jackets and gloves.
Booysens SAPS communications officer Capt Lorraine van Emmerik said both suspects were placed under arrest and investigations are ongoing.

“The management of Booysens SAPS wishes to thank all the role players involved in making this arrest,” she said.
