Truck set alight near Alrode South

A truck driver was shot at and his truck lit on fire on Old Vereeniging Road.

Brackendowns SAPS has opened a case of attempted murder after a truck driver was attacked and his truck burnt on Old Vereeniging Road.

On December 2, a driver was on his way from Witbank to a company on Langkloof Street in Alrode South to park his truck for the evening and collect a load to transport in the morning.

While driving on Old Vereeniging Road near Delphinium Street the driver reportedly noticed smoke and vehicles turning around. The driver stopped to see where he could make a U-turn as he noticed something burning in the road.

According to Brackendowns SAPS spokesperson WO Gerhard Cornelius, as soon as the driver stopped a man with a firearm reportedly appeared and shot at a tyre of the truck.

“The driver locked himself in the truck and the suspect shot another two rounds into the windscreen,” said Cornelius.

“The driver opened the right-side door and escaped unharmed.”

The truck was then set on fire and the suspect fled.
