Victim in hospital after armed robbery

The men got out of the Polo and the man threw his bag away and the suspects started shooting, hitting the man several times,” said Cornelius.

On October 11 a man was taken to hospital after being shot during an armed robbery near Thinasonke.

The victim had reportedly drawn cash at a bank in a nearby shopping centre and left with a friend in a white Volkswagen Polo to his son’s school to pay his school fees.

The pair picked up the victim’s son and on their way home, they stopped at a food stall next to Old Vereeniging Road next to Thinasonke to order food.

According to Brackendowns SAPS spokesperson WO Gerhard Cornelius, as they were waiting a light delivery vehicle with an unknown registration number, possibly a Toyota, stopped near them and three black males jumped out and approached them.

The men pointed at them with firearms and demanded the victim hand over his bag. The driver of the light delivery vehicle remained in the vehicle.

“The men got out of the Polo and the man threw his bag away and the suspects started shooting, hitting the man several times,” said Cornelius. “A suspect grabbed the bag and they all jumped back in the LDV, two in front and one on the back, and drove off. They also took the key of the Polo.”

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services were contacted and the victim was taken to hospital. A case of armed robbery and attempted murder was opened.
