Restaurant helps pilot raise funds to pay study fees

In an effort to assist Mcuphi Nkombi (30) to pay for his academic expenses, Alberton Crossing McDonald’s hosted a fund-raiser on November 3.

The franchise heeded Nkombi’s request in an article published in the RECORD in August 2019 to help cover his expenses.

Thabile Dube, marketing manager of the local franchise, was among those touched by his story. She decided to dedicate the day to Nkombi’s fund-raiser, where 10 per cent of proceeds attained between 4pm to 7pm went towards his expenses.

Overall sales during the occasion totalled R5 020, leaving him with R500, while separate donations totalled R1 500.

Not only did loved ones offer their support, but renowned Orlando Pirates dancer Thabiso Mopeli, better known as Kwekwe, also came through on the evening.

Nkombi thanked everyone for the support he received from the franchise and community members.
Nkombi, who holds a private pilot’s licence, is studying towards a commercial pilot licence with U-Fly Training Academy in Germiston.

A list of things needed for Nkombi’s training comprises a pre-loved laptop, ASA CX3 flight computer, textbooks and charts which can cost up to R20 000.
