Five top vehicles for towing!

This summer, South Africans are likely to holiday within the country’s borders.

Because of safety concerns, they may choose caravans and campervans over hotel rooms.

So, which are the best cars for towing, and what do they cost? When shopping for a vehicle that will be used for towing, the first step is to examine its towing capacity.

There are two different metrics that are used in this regard: braked and unbraked towing capacity. “The former pertains to the maximum towing weight when the trailer has a braking system (the braking system of the trailer is then connected to the car).

With the latter, it’s the maximum towing weight in cases where the trailer doesn’t have a braking system. It follows therefore that the unbraked towing capacity is normally lower than the braked towing capacity,” explains George Mienie, AutoTrader CEO.

AutoTrader is the largest digital automotive marketplace in South Africa. Accordingly, it provides unparalleled insight into car-buying patterns in the country.
