The City of Ekurhuleni’s libraries will open their services in different phases to comply with Covid-19 protocols.
This is according to the City’s spokesperson, Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, who assured the RECORD that upon reopening, all protocols and prescriptions will be adhered to.

Although not being fully operational, the Alberton Library takes in a certain number of people, mostly learners who are preparing for their exams.

In preparation for their return, they have committed to prioritising health safety and put in measures to curb the spread of the pandemic. To date, visitors of the Alberton Library are sanitised and enlisted in the library’s database as they enter.

Cebekhulu said: “The study facilities will be first to open and sanitisers are available and social distancing will be adhered to by the patrons. Staff also received masks. Temperatures will be taken upon entry and any person above 37.4°C won’t be allowed to enter. No mask, no entry.”

He also said there will be different time slots and a closure period to allow for the cleaning of the facility.

A book collect-and-drop service will be introduced and all books returned will be in quarantine for seven days.
