Horizon High learner to represent SA in maths Olympiad

Kgaogelo will be among six other learners who will be participating from South Africa; two from Johannesburg and four from Cape Town.

Grade 12 learner Kgaogelo Bopape (17) from Horizon International School in Turffontein will represent South Africa at the 61st International Mathematical Olympiad in Cape Town on September 21 and 22.

He will be among six other learners who will be participating from South Africa; two from Johannesburg and four from Cape Town. Initially, this event was supposed to be held in Russia.

However, due to Covid-19 it will be held virtually in Cape Town with other 600 learners worldwide and each country is represented by six learners.

“I’m going to do my best. I succeeded in preliminary camps where there were series of tests and this is the time for me to excel,” he said.

Kgaogelo wants to continue studying mathematics after finishing school in top South African universities or overseas.

The other learner from Johannesburg is Andi Qu from St John’s College in Houghton.
