WATCH: African Child Alive serves communities

“I found it in my heart to build this programme because I saw there is a need in some communities."

African Child Alive is a programme that brings hope to children who live in underprivileged homes and areas.
Their purpose is to go around informal settlements and donate to children.

Founder of African Child Alive Nesisa Moyo (35) from Brackendowns said the initiative was born during her journey as being crowned Mrs Universe Africa 2019.

“I found it in my heart to build this programme because I saw there is a need in some communities. I saw a gap and I wanted to give and assist wherever I can.

“The pageant took finalists to China, where I also experienced the hardships of the poorer communities. I did some research about communities close to me and realised there are more people than we know of out there who are struggling. That motivated me to come back and start a programme that will make a difference,” she said.

Nesisa told RECORD her narrative is to support local communities in Jackson Park.

“Our offices are in Brackendowns. We identified these communities for a purpose. We believe charity begins at home and this was close to our heart. “Being here today to hand out clothes to children will not be the end. There is still a lot we want to do and give to the community,” said Nesisa.

“We will be expanding to other daycare centres around the area. We also will be handing over full school uniforms at other primary schools. For now, our main focus are only day-care centres. “I vowed to not stop here but continue giving. This year has been a tough year for a lot of people.

“Through African Child Alive, I just want to give hope and motivate people in the communities,” she said.

Bennedette Landman, a Miss Universe South Africa 2020 finalist, is an African Child Alive brand ambassador. She has been part of the sponsorship programme and with everything they have been doing.

“You can follow us on our website (Africanchildalive.org) to see what we’ve been achieving,” Nesisa said.
