It is all in your hands

The future is already here in that, traffic lights and cars fitted with the applicable technology can communicate to enhance and optimise your in-traffic experience and more.

The Automobile Association (AA) has just announced the launch of the AA Connected Car technology.
“This is a truly fantastic product which will not only give individual drivers but also fleet managers access to a wide range of data which is easily accessible online via desktop or mobile devices, and which will enable them to save money and improve their or their drivers’ safety on the road. The feature which provides access to a digital logbook, for instance, is especially convenient for individual motorists, business owners, and fleet managers who want to use the data for tax purposes,” said Willem Groenewald, CEO of the AA.

“AA Connected Car works through easily installed hardware on a vehicle and software available on Huawei, Apple or Android devices. The data collected is owned by the driver or fleet manager, to which no third party has access.”

Research done by the AA in 2018, indicated that owners of such devices also preferred ownership of the data collected via these devices.

Car connectivity should, according to the Federation Internationale de I’ Automobile (FIA), “decrease breakdowns, anticipate maintenance for better reliability, reduce costs and increase convenience for the user”.

The AA states that the data collected by the AA Connected Car technology will ultimately also improve driver skills as it provides data on harsh braking, speeding, cornering, and low battery notifications among others.

Of course for fleet managers and concerned parents, the tracking function provided by this technology would be particularly useful and reassuring.

The AA partnered with MiX Telematics to bring this “game-changer” technology to market.

“The product fits perfectly with our mission to make SA roads safer,” concluded Groenewald.
