The Renault Sandero first made its appearance in South Africa in 2009 and aimed to provide a high-value offering to the local consumers. In 2011 the Renault introduced a new comprehensive line-up which to date sold over 64 100 units locally of which over 30 500 units consists of the flagship Stepway variant. To celebrate its popularity locally, Renault South Africa is introducing the Sandero Stepway Techroad which is set to replace the current flagship offering.

Upfront customers will notice new C-shape Daytime Running Lights which has become a signature design theme on Renault’s latest models. While still retaining its contemporary design character, the Techroad sees the addition of new front bumpers and continuing on this theme, the Stepway Techroad also features a new rear bumper and the C-shape rear lights.

Further bolstering the crossover styling is an integrated roof spoiler, roof bars, front and rear skid plates, wheel arch mouldings and front fog lights. The new variant also features a higher ground clearance to go with the 16-inch two-tone Flex wheel covers with blue centre caps. Further distinguishing itself are gloss Black door mirrors and decals on the B-Pillars and lower sections of the doors.

The generously proportioned interior which provides space for five occupants plus luggage sees refined finishes and materials used around the cabin with a bespoke upholstery design. The boot provides for 292-litres of luggage space and can be increased by folding flat the split rear bench. Blue detailing features on the seat design, and throughout the cabin.

Additional standard features on the new variant include side airbags, front and rear power windows, electric side mirrors, leather steering wheel and gear knob and rear park assist. The driver also benefits from cruise control and navigation. Providing for the navigation is the Renault MediaNav infotainment system which takes shape as a 7.0-inch touchscreen. The system offers Smartphone Mirroring and are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible and is also utilized as a monitor for the rear parking camera.

Safety features include emergency brake assist coupled to the ABS brakes as well as electronic stability control. For added safety and convenience, Renault also included the hill start assist function which prevents any backward movement for long enough to pull off without needing to use the handbrake. Under the bonnet, customers can expect the familiar 900cc, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which is 66 kW and 135 N.m of torque. The motor is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and promises to return a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.2L/100km.
