14 residents, 8 staff positive for Covid-19 at Witfield Retirement Village

The elderly residents with severe symptoms are confined to the village.

Eight staff members and 14 residents at Witfield Park Retirement Village Trans-50 have tested positive for Covid-19 so far, Ruan de Wet, the managing director of the Trans-50 Association, confirmed.

He explained all the staff members in question are home observing the recommended period of isolation.

“The elderly residents who tested positive for coronavirus are confined to their rooms, while those with severe symptoms are confined to the village’s Covid-19 only ward,” he said.

He highlighted the Witfield Park Retirement Village followed all the correct procedures and immediately informed the Department of Health about the positive cases.

“We’re in close contact with the health department during this challenging time. The safety of our staff members and residents remain our top priority. Hence, we’re doing everything in our power to curb the spread of the virus.

“The building has been decontaminated and we’ve restricted the movement of our residents. There will also certainly be no visitors allowed in our frail care,” the MD added.
