Young and Upcoming: Johannesburg MMC for Housing Mlungisi Mabaso

It’s not often that we get to sit down with a politician on Young and Upcoming, so it was a great privilege to speak to Johannesburg MMC for Housing Mlungisi Mabaso.

Thank you for joining us for another episode of Young and Upcoming, where we feature emerging talent and hardworking individuals who are making waves in their respective industries. It’s not often that we get to sit down with a politician on Young and Upcoming, so it was a great privilege to speak to Johannesburg MMC for Housing Mlungisi Mabaso.

Born and raised in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, Mabaso is known as “Last Born” by his peers as he is one of the youngest MMCs.
Mabaso, who turned 30 in February, enjoys braaing and watching soccer. He was a junior chief in the early days of his career until his passion for politics pulled him in.

“We have issues of unemployment, poverty, gender based violence and we have issues of drugs in South Africa. It’s important that we address and identify our struggle as the youth,” said Mabaso.
“We need to rise above political ideologies, because the issues are the same, we only differ on the ‘how’ part,” added Mabaso.

Talking to us about his passions and his love for gospel music, Mabaso attributes his success to the willingness of always wanting to help people. Whether it is loaning money to friends and family (lol), or assisting with housing, his passion for helping people lies at the heart of his work.

As Youth Month comes to an end, we sat down and had a conversation with the young MMC and spoke about his passions, some things that are close to his heart, and the huge responsibility of being part of the Mayoral Committee.
