Emergency services work to recover body of electrocuted man hanging from power lines

Man electrocuted and killed while allegedly attempting to cut power lines at Germiston Lake Station.

Emergency services from the Germiston Central Fire Station are still on the scene of a reported electrocution that took place at 9.10am this morning (May 27) at the Germiston Lake Train Station.

According to William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), the man is still hanging from the power lines of the Metrorail station as personnel from DEMS and Prasa work to retrieve his body.

“We are busy isolating the power supply and recovering the man’s body,” said Ntladi.

“It is reported that he was killed by electrocution from the 3 000 volt power cables, and it is alleged he was cutting the cables at the time of his death.

“This is similar to an incident that happened almost a week ago at another train station in Germiston.”

SAPS officials and a SAPS forensics team are on scene to investigate the incident.
