What to expect at the Festival of Motoring

The Festival of Motoring first introduced in 2016 has grown into one of the most anticipated motoring events and here is what you can expect.

Taking place on 22 – 25 August 2019 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, you will be exposed to a variety of manufacturers and the latest additions to its model ranges. Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed, not only will you be able to circumvent Kyalami in the latest Golf R, but you will also get a sneak peek of the latest T-Cross model, only bound for South African shores later this year. Also on display from Volkswagen is its record-breaking ID.R Pikes Peak electric racing car, Touareg Black Style, Arteon, Tiguan Allspace, Polo Vivo GT and Vivo Sound Edition. For the off-road enthusiasts, the bespoke technical 4×4 obstacle course will see the V6 Amarok displaying its capabilities while the soon-to-be-launched special edition Amarok Canyon will be displayed.

Unveiling a new era of Vorsprung, Audi South Africa will be presenting three of its latest models, the A1, Q3 and the premium A7. While the A1 and the Q3 have been launched and will find their way to showrooms from 1 September, the A7 Sportback will only launch until the last quarter of 2019. Also on display is Audi’s fully-electric e-tron. Entertaining its guests, Audi will have a range of RS models including the R8, RS 5 Sportback, RS 4 Avant and RS 3 doing laps around the circuit. Guests will also be able to meet FIA World Rallycross Champion, two-time DTM champion and three-time winner of the Race of Champions, Mattias Ekström, and watch him display his talent on the Audi gymkhana and skid pan area.

A third German manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz South Africa, will be present and showcasing some of the latest models in its local line-up. Although speculating, we are expecting the Mercedes-Benz GT 4-door to make an appearance as VIP guests are treated to hot laps in Mercedes AMG models. While little more of the Stuttgart manufacturer’s plans for the event have been revealed, we are sure it will impress.

Another highlight is the new Toyota Supra which will be proving its provenance around the Johannesburg race track. The luxury wing of Toyota, Lexus, will also be present and introducing the public to its latest additions to its performance range, the RC F and RC F Track Edition which is expected to do some demonstration laps around Kyalami. Also representing the Far East, Baic, will be unveiling its flagship model; the BJ40 Plus to the public. Guests will also be able to experience their, X25 and D20 models in some spirited laps around the track. The weekend will host plenty of activities and manufacturers to appeal to any type of motoring enthusiast and promises to be a fun day out in the sun for families.
