Sphelele Mzimela makes a name for herself

Sphelele Mzimela is an actress and singer and hails from e’Mgungundlovu in KwaZulu-Natal.

She studied acting at the Durban University of Technology where she also trained as a singer and dancer. She has been singing and dancing since she was only 10 years old. Sphelele went on to graduate from the Durban University of Technology in 2012 with a national diploma in drama).

The same year, she had begun studying for her Bachelor of Arts degree in television production at the AFDA Academy (The South African School of Motion Picture medium and live performance) in a quest to broaden her knowledge about the television industry. She graduated from the AFDA academy in 2015 and upon completion of her degree she joined the Mzansi Magic soap opera Isibaya.

Portrayed as a rural and naïve girl in the soap opera, Siphelele said the role has made her appreciate the role of rural women. Growing up in the countryside, she claims the role has made her realise the predicament of marginalised women on a daily basis.
