Izibuko’s best perfomer aces almost all subjects

Izibuko Primary School in Katlehong held a prize-giving ceremony on Friday, November 4 with the aim of encouraging learners to take their studies seriously.
The school’s best performer, Bridget Chirwa (12) in Grade Seven took home six awards, including for natural science (NS), life orientation, English, mathematics, Zulu, economic and management sciences (EMS). In addition, she was a awarded a cheque for R1 000 for her efforts.
Bongani Ngwenya, principal of the school, who welcomed the guests, said he was happy to have a learner like Chirwa at his school.
“The purpose of prize-giving ceremony was to honour to those who have excelled academically.
“Those who have excelled will be rewarded accordingly and we are hoping that they will work hard to maintain what they have achieved. And those who did not do well will learn from this.
“We can’t call everyone to come forward but I would like to say to those who did not get anything, it is possible to achieve,” said Ngwenya.
According to Zenzele Zulu, HOD for Senior Phase, said they were recognising excellence in learners and encouraging others to perform at their utmost best.
“This ceremony has been running for years and since we started, we’ve been seeing an improvement each and every year.
“This year’s performance is better than last year because last year’s best performer got two position ones and this year’s best performer got four position ones.
“Our target is always 80 per cent in all subjects and we are almost there because we are at 74 per cent now,” said Zulu.
Chirwa, who wants to become an accountant, was more than happy with her achievement.
“It is all a result of my hard work. All my dedication to my schoolwork has paid off.
“I would like to encourage my schoolmates to learn to make their studies their number on priority in life,” Bridget said.
Bridget’s mother, Gin Chirwa, was very pleased.
“I am so happy for my child; it is because of her hard work that she achieved all this. It is the first time we have a child like this in the family.
“I would like to thank the teachers, if it was not for them this would not have been possible,” said Gin.
Other awards went to the following learners:
· Motloung Memelo: home language, NS and mathematics
· Boco Amanda: EMS, technology and NS
· Mashifane Bongiwe: mathematics
· Mothabeng Kanyisile: creative arts
· Mthombeni Mongezi: social sciences and life orientation
Siwendu Sibulele and Mabhongo Siphosethu also received awards for their accuracy in time-keeping. They received the Bell Ringers award.
