Young women must stand up against abuse

Aaron Maruping, teacher liaison officer at the school, gave his message to young women.

Give A Little Love, a non-profit organisation which aims at bringing a difference into its community, held a motivational talk on Saturday, August 27.

The event took place at Vosloorus Thuto Lesedi Secondary School with an aim of discouraging any form of abuse directed at young women. Julia Williams, the organiser of the event, gave her motivational talk to young people who attended the event.

“We as young women tend to forget our value. We take ourselves for granted and that is why it is easy for the next person to take us for granted. I want each and every one of us here to focus on our dreams. No one can take our dreams away from us. Stay away from boys as they will just impregnate you and leave you with a baby,” said Williams.

CEO of Asakhe Events and board member of Career Exhibition Information Association, Tshepang Lutshaba, expanded on Julia’s point. “If you decide to have a baby now, the chances of you making it big in life are slim as you won’t have time to focus on your books but you will put most of your effort on your baby instead,” said Lutshaba.

To make the event very interesting, a lot of entertainment was organised, including netball games, shangane dance and music. After the games and the motivational talks, the learners were treated to lunch.

Nomonde Mndaweni, deputy principal of the school, was happy with the results. “As the school we appreciate what the organisers did and we thank them for choosing our school to host their event. We wish they can come back and motivate the whole school. Young people must know their background and try their best to improve their situation,” said Mndaweni.

Aaron Maruping, teacher liaison officer at the school, gave his message to young women.

“Young women must respect themselves and take good advice from other people. They must know that education is a key to open doors to success in life. They must participate in sports for their health and stay away from drugs,” said Maruping.
