Get the most bang out of your buck with Bulgaria and Turkey

Travel creates memories, helps you unwind after tough months at work, and provides fun and excitement for the whole family.

The good news is that travel does not necessarily have to be an unaffordable luxury. Many places in the world are ideal for budget travel.

Here are the two top picks for budget travel in Europe.

Brilliant Bulgaria

Western Europe may be a little pricey for a budget break, but some parts of Eastern Europe still remain excellent value for travellers from South Africa. Bulgaria can be reached with affordable flights and the cost of living once in the country is pretty low. Bulgaria offers excellent sights and attractions but at a fraction of the cost in comparison to a place like Italy.

Some of the attractions of Bulgaria include towering mountains, ancient towns and cities with historic buildings and churches, beaches along the coast of the Black Sea, and some wonderful monuments.

A meal out in Bulgaria would cost you approximately the same as in South Africa, and you can pick up cheap groceries for a self-catering stay. You will also be able to save money on accommodation, which is not as expensive as in Western European destinations.

Totally Turkey

If you are looking for a vibrant and intriguing place to visit on your next vacation, try Turkey. The country embodies the mixture of old and new, with a location somewhere between the east and the west. Turkey provides spectacular sights and attractions, at a lower cost than countries in Western Europe.

The Turkish attractions include Topkapi Palace in the capital city of Istanbul, cave churches and rock formations in Cappadocia, Roman ruins in Ephesus, and some stunning beaches. Western Turkey is the best place to visit as parts of the east are troubled and not recommended to visit at this time.
