Katlehong football club need financial support

HotSpurs FC is racing against time to raise funds before the SAB League which will kick off on October 13.

HotSpurs FC is appealing for sponsorship ahead of its new journey in the highly contested SAB League.

The Katlehong-based club was promoted from the Katlehong Local Football Association Super League after an impressive performance during the playoffs.

Their new promotion comes with new challenges like issues of transport when they play away games, booking the venue for home games, paying the referee’s fee and basic needs like food and water.

HotSpurs FC is managed by chairperson Themba Madinani, vice chairperson Abel Sithole, treasurer Nkosinathi Malema secretary, goalkeeper Sbonelo Hlongwane and team manager Simphiwe Zonko.

Coach Zonko expressed that as much as they are thrilled by their new chapter, they anticipate challenges. As he explained running the team is not cheap.

He said they will need transport and funds to book Vosloorus Stadium.

Hlongwane said their spirits are very high because they are going to the upper league.

“We have endured many struggles but this achievement has united the people of Siluma View and Siluma Gardens. We can see it in the support from parents, players and the community.”

He said they are not going to the SAB League to add numbers, they want to compete.

“We don’t have a sponsor. The club is registered as an NPC and we have sent documents to request funding from the Department of Social Development.

“We need support from anyone who can assist, we are appealing to all people who love football and local businesses in Katlehong to support us.

“It will not only benefit the players but it will unite us as a community. We will provide an opportunity for youngsters to engage in healthy activities, instead of smoking drugs or getting involved in crime,” he said.

On September 17, HotSpurs participated in preseason games at Vosloorus Stadium. According to Hlongwane, they had to spend R 500 on transport to attend.

HotSpurs senior team will play their first game against Ballers FC on October 14.

Central defender Sympathy Khomeliwa has been with the club for over five years. He is excited because reaching this level has always been their dream since the club was initiated.

“We do not want to be relegated on our first season. Our aim is to win most of our games and end in the top five.”

HotSpurs will play their first game away against Ballers FC on October 14.
