KALFA junior league crowns champions

KHG Brothers will be playing in the playoff for the U15 regional league following their 4-1 victory.

Katlehong Local Football Association (KALFA) junior league champions clashed in the finals for the 2022-2023 league season at Somhlolo grounds on January 21.

The KALFA junior league has two streams. The champions from the south and north streams went head-on to compete for the league title and to book a spot in the much-desired SAFA regional league playoffs.

The north-stream clubs dominated the finals in all divisions from U11, U13 and U15.

In the U11 division, the north champions Amatrompies FC won 2-0 against the south champions Dikole Youth Academy (DYA).

The second game between the U13 south champions Young Chiefs and KHG Brothers saw the north champions claim the competitive encounter.

K1 Stars won gold medals, a new kit and trophies in the U15 division.

KHG Brothers will be in the playoffs for the U15 regional league following their 4-1 victory.

Katlehong Stars U15 (north stream) won 6-4 on penalties against Heavy Stone FC after the two sides played to a two-all draw.

Amatrompies coach Bongani ‘Mahuta’ Zwane said they planned well, as they usually do for each game.

“What I can say is that my boys worked well enough throughout the year to become champions at the end of the day,” said Zwane.

“Our structure is very good. The U15s have already won the regional league and the U13 team is in the fourth position. Each year we get something from the league which means our structure is good and powerful.”

He said he aims to win two or three trophies this season and transfer players to better teams like Mamelodi Sundowns Development or Super Sport United because the club does not have enough infrastructure.

The coach of KHG Brothers Au Mello, said although they won without a loss or draw, the league was very hectic.

The U13 KALFA junior league champions Amatrompies FC celebrate their league success.

“Each coach had to plan properly against us because we won 20 out of 20 games. I feel great because I see progress in the team. Our plan this season is to maintain the top three positions and next year to go for another league title,” said Mello.

From Dikole Youth Academy Katleho Makhubela said the finals were supposed to be played on December 10 but postponed due to incomplete games in the north stream.

“This has killed our team spirit because some players could not attend. Last week they were preparing school stationery and covering books and we started training late. However, it was a good game, we enjoyed it though there were mistakes.”
