Ward 61 ANC councillor supports local football

In the senior division Phase 4 united come out victorious after defeating X11 FC for a 4 – 2 win.

The community of Katlehong witnessed an exciting sporting weekend as local clubs battled for the title at the Ward 61 Community Games at phase 4 grounds during the finals at Tsietsi on October 30.

The tournament started three weeks ago and is sponsored by Ward 61 Clr Somahhashi Ngubani.

According to Ngubani, the tournament will be held annually for the duration of his term. He said it means a lot to the community and local soccer clubs since it was their first time experiencing a tournament in phase 4.

Clubs that managed to book their spot in the finals included Tsietsi All-Stars, who knocked out Gadlaza FC in the U15 division finals after a 2–1 victory.

Amazon FC lifts the trophy as they celebrate their victory in the Ward 61 Community Games.

This was followed by the U19 division that saw Amazon FC battle against Gudlhuza FC.

Gudlhuza FC led the match in the first half after Juninoh Molapisi scored a hat trick. But Amazon never lost hope as Tumi Tshabalala scored the first goal before the end of the first half.

Tukelo Mofokeng later equalised and Tshabala extended their lead in the second half.

In the senior division, United FC came out victorious after defeating X11 FC 4-2.

The head coach of Amazon FC Xolani ‘Disco’ Khoza said the tournament was tough because the participating teams were strong.

“We thank the councillor for what he is doing for local football. I am happy that we won although it was not easy to chase the game two goals down. The players showed their fighting spirit,” said Khoza.

Gudlhuza FC said they played hard in both halves but the lack of experience showed.

“You cannot lead 2–0 and allow the opposition to equalise before halftime. We were worthy opponents and they are winners. Congratulations to them,” said the coach.
