Vosloorus athlete brings another medal home

He emphasized that his main goal is to build a collection of medals to inspire young upcoming aspirational runners.

Vosloorus athlete, Lucky Zwane, is thrilled to return with yet another silver medal at the Absa Run Your City 10km race held in Johannesburg CBD on September 24.

The 42-year-old athlete’s recent accomplishment marks his ninth accolade in 2022 alone.

He expressed gratitude for receiving a silver medal once again but emphasized that his main goal is to build a collection of medals to inspire young upcoming runners.

“I entered hoping to at least reach the top 3 since it was a short-distance race. To my surprise, I came across a huge number of runners. When I got to the starting point, there were about 12 thousand participants,” said Zwane.

He said he started at the back when the race began and it was difficult to run his normal pace since the streets were painted in red, but he managed to increase his pace after 5km.

“I reached the finish line at 55 minutes. My goal was to reach the finish line in 40 minutes, but I could not due to the huge crowd of runners.”

Absa spoiled athletes with the ABSA VIP hand tag to access the ABSA marquee after reaching the finish line.

“I enjoyed the drinks since they were serving all types and the treatment was top class. I even had a chance to see our former mayor Dr Mpho Phalatse and James Moloi in person. However, I could not take photographs with them because of the heavy security on the spot.

“It was a great outing weekend especially when you attended with friends, family or children, It feels good to be part of the running crew because you always meet elite runners during the races,” said Zwane.

Zwane is currently sourcing funds between R550 and R 650 to register for the Soweto Marathon, which will take place on November 6.
