KM introduced the first KMKT in 2021 after agreeing with partners and KALFA to kick start a joint venture to support local football development.

The idea was brought to life after Khumalo shared his desire to host a soccer tournament for the community and the readers of KM newspaper.

Khumalo said the purpose of the tournament is to support and contribute positively to the development of local sports while bringing amusement and unity to the community through local football.

The inaugural tournament was won by Villa Development FC at Somhlolo grounds, on November 15, 2021, after they crushed finalist Hotspurs 0 – 2.
