Rovers FC hosts tournament ahead of the new season

Rovers FC held a friendly tournament ahead of the new season on March 26 and 27.

In preparation for the new season, which kicks off in April, Rovers FC hosted a pre-season tournament on March 26 and 27 in Brackendowns.

The well-attended pre-season, according to organisers, was part of Rovers FC’s 20th-anniversary celebration. U-7, u-8, u-9, u-10, u-11 and u-13 teams took part on both days.

Paullette van Wyne of Rovers FC said because of great numbers taking part, they had to split the different teams according to streams.

She reiterated that at least 34 junior teams went head-to-head with each other on March 26.

“Rovers FC has been running for 20 years and there are lots of people who have come through for us into putting building blocks to it. We had our juniors’ tournament for the pre-season, as we will be starting with our league in April,” said van Wyne.

These are friendly games, as preparation until the league opens. This is their way of getting into the swing of things, for coaches to also be able to track their players’ abilities.”
