Dikole Killers bag three points at league

Dikole Killers punished Villa Development Club to a narrow 1- 0 win during the Katlehong Local Football Association Super League senior clash at Khumalo Sports Grounds, on May 9.

The two clubs played to a goalless entertaining first half, both creating goal-scoring opportunities.

Both goalkeepers kept their side in the competition as they continued to make brilliant saves when their defence players were caught napping during counter-attacks.

The striker of Dikole Killers, Duma Skhosana, scored the only goal during the dying minutes of the game to secure a three-point win for his side.

Villa Development made several attempts to balance the scoreline while the visiting team worked together to increase the lead.

Head coach of Dikole Killers Sipho Langa said the game was tough because it was the top of a table clash.

“Currently, we are sitting at number five and our opponents were on the top of the table. I am more than happy about the results, our strategy was very simple, we absorbed the pressure and punished them on counter-attacks,” said Langa.

“Our strategy did pay off, but it is not a true reflection in the game. We should have scored more goals because we created many chances.

“We were playing with just one striker. We will consider attacking with two strikers on our next game because we create chances but we can’t capitalise on the opportunities,” he said.

Dikole Killers captain Tebogo Motaung said it was a tough game but credit should be given to the technical team and players.

“We came back from a loss in the previous match, so we had to redeem ourselves. I am very happy about the three points we collected,” he said.

“I think technically the gents played very well, we improved from the previous game. We were well organised, I am proud of my defence because they have improved a lot. They were able to start the ball from the back and build up going forward.

“The combination of play is very important as well because it determines whether the team can play or not. The opponents were tough too so I have to give credit to them as well,” said Motaung.

The chairperson of Villa Development, Motseki ‘Tiger’ Khanye, said the boys needed to develop a winning attitude and obsession.

“Have you seen how many clear cut goals they created in the first half? Even in the second half, we created opportunities but they were not there. Our central defender made a silly mistake and we got punished for that.

“This is our second encounter against Dikole Killers. In the first round, we took the three points and on this second round we lost because of attitude,” said Khanye.
