Two wins on the trot for Vosloorus juniors

Vosloorus Cricket Club (VCC) won the two crucial games they played over the weekend against Boksburg Cricket Club and Champions Cricket Club from Kempton Park.

The two 20-over Eastern Junior Cricket League games were played on Friday, February 2 at 6pm and Saturday, February 3 at 9am.

In the first game, Vosloorus scored 37 runs for the loss of three wickets in five overs to surpass Boksburg’s 36 all out.

In the second game, VCC humiliated the home side, bowling them all out for 38 runs before hauling in the target with 39 for five in 12 overs.

The 20 points gained from the two wins saw the team from Vosloorus climbing to fifth position on the log with 90 points after 11 games.

Isaac Phele, the Vosloorus Cricket Club development coach, said they thought the games were going to be tougher. “We were expecting tough encounters against the two teams, but the boys managed to smash the oppositions easily. It shows that the boys are serious about the game.”

Phele said they are hoping to continue where they left off last season, when they won the league.

He said although his team and the log leaders are separated by many points, there is “no huge difference between us and the leading teams. What costed us are the points that were deducted from the games we won. The points were deducted for not wearing the same clothes and for late coming.”

Phele sang the praises of the role played by the pre-school and primary school cricket leagues. “If it was not for these two programmes we wouldn’t have such good players at this age,” he said.
