Nine out of 10 teams that participated in the EBL were playing their third league games on the day.
These included KwaThema Bulls, Zonke Magic, Katlehong Packers, Katlehong Gladiators, Katlehong Bulls, Wattville Watts, Kempton Knights, Kempton Dukes and Vosloorus Pitbulls.
The 10th team, the Leondale Chronics, did not participate on the day.
Seaparo Mohale, the coach of Vosloorus Pitbulls and the chairman of Vosloorus Basketball Association (VBA), was excited about the success of the day.
“We managed to play all the games as per our arrangement,” said Seaparo.
Vosloorus Pitbulls won both their games.
“The cherry on top was winning our game by hitting the basket 49 times to 47 against Wattville Watts, last year’s defending champions. The fact that we won against a team of that calibre has everyone in the team excited,” a proud Seaparo said.
He said there are two rounds to be played.
“It means each team will play 18 league games in total. The top four will play in a knock-out competition. The team that wins the top-four competition will be awarded a trophy and gold medals, while the runners-up will take home silver medals. Those in third place will be awarded bronze medals,” explained Seaparo.
The results of all the games that were played on the day are as follow:
*Vosloorus Pitbulls beat Zonke Magic, Vosloorus Pitbulls won 36-20.
*Zonke Magic vs Wattville Watts, Wattville Watts won 76-30.
*Zonke Magic vs Katlehong Gladiators, Katlehong Gladiators won 71-13.
*Kempton Dukes vs Katlehong Packers, Kempton Dukes won 38-34.
*KwaThema Bulls vs Zonke Magic, KwaThema Bulls won 50-7.
*Vosloorus Pitbulls vs Wattville Watts, Vosloorus Pitbulls won 49-47.
*Katlehong Gladiators vs Kempton Dukes, Kempton Dukes won 49-30.
*Katlehong Packers vs Zonke Magic, Kalehong Packers won 62-27.
*Katlehong Gladiators vs KwaThema Bulls, Katlehong Gladiators won 50-44.
*Kempton Knights vs Wattville Watts, Wattville Watts won 74-22.
*Kempton Dukes vs Kempton Knights, Kempton Dukes won 57-29.
After the Sunday games, Kempton Dukes remain on top of the log table, with eight points, while Katlehong Gladiators stay in position two, followed by Katlehong Bulls in third. Vosloorus Pitbulls occupy fourth position, while Zonke Magic remains rooted at the bottom of the log.
