Great turnout at softball games in Vosloorus

The search for new sporting talent in the townships led to softball games being played at Vosloorus Stadium on Saturday, June 10.

Six senior teams, including Tembisa Classic, Sebokeng Jumpers, Ekurhuleni Flames Masters, Vosloorus Hunters, North West Generations and Pretoria Giant Killers, and two junior teams, including Palmridge Tigers Juniors and Vosloorus Hunters Juniors, took part on the day.

Jacob Mongoai, the organiser, said, “We normally switch on to this league when our main league game is closed every year so that we can keep fit,” said Mongoai.

However, they are still struggling to get sponsors, he said.

“We don’t even have prizes for the winners. We are only hear for the love of the sport. If there are people out there who would like to help us please come, because we would like to see the sport grow and be just like soccer,” he said.

He said he would like to introduce softball in schools.

“I have tried before but I was turned down a number of times,” said Mongoai.

The results on the day were as follows:

  •  Pretoria Giant Killers 3 v Vosloorus Hunters 1
  •  Vosloorus Hunters 9 v Tembisa Classic 2
  • Vaal Jumpers 6 v Ekurhuleni Masters Flames 5
  • Tembisa Classic 6 v Ekurhuleni Masters Flames 3
  • Ekurhuleni Masters Flames 10 v North West Generations 1
  • Sebokeng Jumpers 8 v Pretoria Giant Killers 3
  • Tembisa Classic 9 v Sebokeng Jumpers 2
  • North West Generations 6 v Vaal Jumpers 0

Vosloorus Hunters remain on top of the log, followed by Tembisa Classic. Vaal Jumpers occupy third position.

Junior matches results are as follow: Palmridge Tigers Juniors 9 v Vosloorus Hunters Juniors 6.
