Plus-size women to get their skates on

Plus-size women are invited to go ice skating on Friday, June 16, at Festival Mall in Kempton Park.

The purpose of this one-day trip will be to introduce plus-size women to the sport.

They will have fun skating under the guidance of professionals in celebration of Youth Day.

Sibusiso Ndala, one of the organisers, said all plus-size women are welcome to join in the fun, regardless of age or skill level.

“Their partners and children are also welcome.

“Ice skates will be available for hire at Festival Mall at only R100 per pair,” said Ndala.

“You’ll have fun on the ice and get time to skate with other people from different parts of the country,” said Ndala.

Ndala said the outing is part of the initiative to boost the confidence and self-esteem of plus-size women.

“We started by hosting Ekurhuleni Miss Thick Madame auditions in Vosloorus. The finals will be on Saturday, June 3.

“The ice skating will follow.

“Additional activities are in the pipeline for plus-size women,” said Ndala.

He said the ice-skating trip will include many other activities, including team building.

According to Deborah Masindane, one of the plus-size women who will be participating in the ice skating, they will be exercising while having fun at the same time.

“We want to encourage all plus-size women to exercise. The best way to encourage them is to do something that they will enjoy – ice skating,” said Masindane.

She wants people to know that anything that thin women can do, plus-size women can do better.

“I would like to encourage plus-size women to come out to celebrate Youth Day in style,” said Masindane.
