Soccer tournament held in Vosloorus

Star At Heart South Africa, a non-profit organisation, held a soccer tournament at Mashile Sports Ground at Mailula in Vosloorus on the Easter weekend.

The tournament was played over three days. Kick-off was on Friday, April 14.

Wonder Twala, one of the organisers, said the event was aimed at sourcing new talent in the township.

“We want to build a strong team that will represent Star At Heart South Africa in the future. The team will play in the township to entertain people while keeping players and people busy,” said Twala.

Another aim of the organisation is to raise funds to buy food for residents of an old age home in Vosloorus.

“Boxer Super Store sponsors us with soccer balls,” Twala said.

Mofaya sponsored the energy drinks.

MPBiz Cafe sponsored the prize for the winning team, valued at R5 500.

This prize included:

*A mentorship programme

*Business development

*Access to markets

*Access to funding and sponsorship

*Access to the MPBiz Cafe network

*Access to manufactures and product development.

The programme’s duration is two years.

Everland FC won the tournament, defeating Tso 11 by four goals to nil.

The team took home the MPBiz first prize, a trophy and R1 000 in cash.

Tso 11 took the runner-up prize of R1 000.
