Lenasia Premier League supports education

The GM Lenasia Premier League (LPL) made big announcements at their sixth annual auction at the Trade Route Mall in Lenasia.

Ziyaad Desai, captain of the premier league team from the Alberton Cricket Club, outlined the vision and foundation of the LPL.

Over the last seven years the LPL has grown in stature and strength with high profile players in the tournament, quality tournament sponsors and successful programs initiated and supported by the league.

At the auction the LPL revealed the Pinnacle Cars Niel Mckenzie LPL Master Class, an initiative that sees four young men from the LPL selected, mentored and coached by Niel Mckenzie on a one on one basis.

Sherwin Pillay, Alberton Boy Delano Potgieter, Muhammed Mayet and Farhaan Syanvala are the four men who have been selected for the first masterclass.

The LPL highlighted the importance of education and that a good education is essential to becoming a good cricketer. With this in mind, the LPL revealed the success of the Future Cup with Wits University and shared that the University of Johannesburg (UJ) will be joining the cup in 2016.

The LPL is establishing partnerships with these two universities in hopes of providing bursary opportunities for underprivileged students. The LPL proudly announced that two men from within their system will be receiving Wits bursaries pending their matric results at the end of 2015. The names of the bursary recipients will be announced at a later stage.

Spur and Cell C Lenasia have continued to show their loyal support for the LPL. For the second consecutive year, the Cell C Lenasia was announced as the front kit sponsor for the Bank All Stars.

Spur will be providing 120 free meals to the u.13 and u.15 teams and both companies have indicated that they will be involved in more initiatives during the league. Imperial Nissan will be providing a car to the LPL player of the week.

The LPL stressed that the heart and soul of its organization is the Trade Route Mall junior competition with more than 1000 young cricketers competing for the win.

Two competitions were also announced at the auction. One member of the public will stand the chance to win a Focal sound system to the value of R30 000 and Soviet clothing launched a competition where one member of the public will have the opportunity to win R100 000 cash.
