Resilience is a must-have skill

Resilience building is a step-by-step process.

“Resilience is a precious skill. People who have it have three advantages: a belief they can influence life events, a tendency to find meaning and purpose in life’s turmoil, and a conviction they can learn from positive and negative experiences,” – journalist Amanda Ripley.

When we learn how to become resilient, we learn how to embrace the broad spectrum of the human experience. Resilience centres around purpose. Having a sense of purpose and direction in life is an important source of resilience.

When you have a strong why, resilience gets built while fighting for that which you strongly believe in.
This is why Muhammad Ali said, “Champions aren’t made in the gym, and champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, and a vision.”

According to Ali, this means you can spend as much time in the gym, but if you lack deep desire, a strong dream, and an unshakable vision, you’ll never become a champion.

Challenges are the ones that mostly help you build resilience. Resilience is not what happens to you; it’s how you react to, respond to, and recover from what happens to you. It’s about embracing the storms that present themselves before you.

Resilience is understanding that life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving. Instead, we get stronger and more resilient. So, resilience is about having a champion mindset that believes life doesn’t happen to you but for you.

It’s about not playing the victim by seeing yourself being attacked, but instead getting toughened by life. A strong and resilient person does not need the approval of others any more than a lion needs the approval of a sheep.

Finally, resilience building is a step-by-step process, it takes some time, but once built, you become unstoppable.
