Thank you, Sgt Ramara

I never thought a day will come where I would write a mail of gratitude to the SAPS as it has never occurred to me that the words “thank you" and "SAPS” can be in the same sentence.

Allow me to say thank you to Sgt Ramara and his partner, you managed to change my mind when it comes to the SAPS. I never thought in my wildest dreams that policemen like you exist in South Africa.

My husband’s car was stolen outside Edenvale Police Station when he went there to report a case on September 26. Three days later at around 6.30pm my husband received a call from Sgt Ramara from the flying squad who informed him that his car had been recovered in Katlehong.

We immediately drove there and for people who do not know that area, Sgt Ramara was very patient with us. He even sent us the location from his personal phone and was on the line with us constantly to ensure we reach the place in one piece.

Thank you Kathorus MAIL

At one stage when we were there his phone rang and he didn’t even answer it as he said he still needed to explain things to us, it rang again and it was definitely someone from the force. Sgt Ramara asked to be excused and informed whoever was on the line that he will get back to him shortly and he then apologised to us – my jaw dropped.

Sgt Ramara you are one of the kind. Thank you. Because of you I now have a different view of men in uniform in this country. I have had different interactions with SAPS before and not once did I wish to see a policeman next to me.

The respect you showed is commendable. Keep up the good work and I hope this mail reaches the right people and trust that you have a “wall of good deeds” so that this conduct rubs off on other SAPS members. May the Lord bless and protect you as you do your work and guide your every step. When someone says the policemen of this country are useless, I will stand proudly and say: “Not all of them.” I have no words. but I truly bless the day I met you and your partner.

Kind regards

Kefiloe Raphela
