Lives of the youth at risk because of dagga law

Concerned Vosloorus resident adamant that the new dagga ruling is a licence for young people to experiment with the drug.

Caleb Ntshingila, Marimba Gardens, writes:

We already have a serious drug problem in South Africa, and by legalising dagga the government has overstepped its mark to govern.

Instead of dealing with the existing drug issues among the youth of the country, now the authorities are extending the boundaries of addiction and crime.

We will see more young people using the drug and becoming addicted to the drug which will eventually destroy their lives.

Parents and community organisations should stand together and raise their voices against this new Constitutional law passed by Judge Zondo.

There are hundreds of research documents which prove the use of dagga is a danger to health.

Why on earth should the Constitutional Court decide to go against the will of the people by legitimising a drug with a history of destroying human health?

The ruling is a licence for young people to experiment with dagga.

It is a proven fact that the 18-year restriction imposed by the Constitutional Court as the accepted age for smoking the drug means nothing to a desperate young addict in need of a fix.

How many young people respect the existing age restriction on alcohol?

South Africa needs a referendum from the population to be able to pass such a reckless and irresponsible law.

The lives and future of our children depend on the scrapping of this dagga law with immediate effect before more young lives are completely destroyed.
