Police have become easy targets for criminals

The ruthless and blatant murder of a policeman at the Vosloorus Crossing Shopping Centre in July, has shown how much respect criminals have lost for the law and the rest of society.

I find the daring courage in which these criminals managed to ambush the two policemen, one of whom later died, not only endangers innocent people and undermines the laws of our country.

Unless the legal system becomes tough and ruthless with criminals who commit murder, this sort of mayhem shall continue unabated. To date, we have had more than 50 policemen killed by criminals while in the line of duty and this has got to come to end.

We did not fight against the oppressive system of apartheid only to be ruled by a pack of savages who wish to terrorise society with their murderous criminal activities. We should all stand up against this evil crime scourge in our communities.
