Foreigners seem to be better at business

It has become obvious that South Africans lack what foreigners seem to excel in when it comes to running their businesses.

This is proved by the number of foreigners who are renting municipal street stalls in the townships around Kathorus. For example, the majority of small business people who operate businesses at these stalls are foreigners while many locals walk around the streets claiming they cannot find work to feed themselves and their families.

This, to me, is proof of just how resilient and determined many of these foreigners can be when it comes to creating their own income and wealth, while South Africans look up to the government to support and supplement their livelihood.

While most foreign women sell anything from fruits and vegetables to operating informal street hair salons, local women seem to prefer government grants.

Perhaps it is this old apartheid culture of dependency that has seen our people, both men and women, preferring to look up to government for their own survival rather than make an effort to better their lives.
