Learners’ behaviour leaves Transport MEC in dismay

“The school is not doing badly in terms of academic performance we just have a challenge with behaviour.”

The newly appointed MEC for Transport and Logistics, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, was very disappointed by the learners’ disrespectful behaviour during her visit to Alafang Secondary School at Tshongweni Section, Katlehong, on January 11.

Diale-Tlabela’s visit is part of the Gauteng school readiness programme to welcome learners back to school and ensure that teaching and learning begin smoothly.

However, the MEC witnessed a lack of order and ill-discipline by learners who were scattered and making noise during the address by guests.

The majority of them could not hear what was being said due to the noise.

The former Transport MEC Alco Ngobese graced the event along with Member of Parliament Phutas Tseki, CPF members and the Ward 51 committee members.

Pastor Msebenzi Dlamini motivated learners to focus on their studies and respect their teachers.

Diale-Tlabela reprimanded the learners for their behaviour and informed them about the importance of school, respect and discipline before formally welcoming them back.

Diale-Tlabela said they will assist the teachers and the school governing body to ensure that there is law and order.

“The school is not doing badly in terms of academic performance, we just have a challenge with behaviour. As of now, we will be meeting with the leadership just to understand what the challenges are and look into how we can help resolve them,” said Diale-Tlabela.

She appealed to the community and parents to assist and play their role at home to help make sure that the school is a friendly environment for all to learn.

“You could see teachers have given up, it is an issue of behaviour. As a society, we need to correct such issues. These are our children we will make sure that we work hard to support those who need it,” she said.

Diale-Tlabela said she believes the school is ready for the 2023 academic year.

She said according to the report they got from the school, everything is in order and teachers were ready to start with lessons.
