Katlehong South SAPS arrested a 34-year-old alleged drug dealer from Ext three, Moleleki Section, Katlehong, on August 17.
This follows after police conducted a school search and seizure operation at Eketsang and Sijabulile secondary schools where they seized packets of dagga, rizlas, cigarettes, scissors and knives.
The school search was led by Katlehong Social Crime Prevention (KSCP) coordinator Sergeant Nomathamsanqa Nkonkoane as part of the school safety programme.
According to Katlehong South SAPS media liaison officer Constable Sivenkosi Mtwa, the two schools were identified as problematic by the Department of Education.
“The reason for the search was to confiscate dangerous weapons, drugs and any items presumed to be unwanted on the school premises.”
SAPS had support from other stakeholders the police forum, brigades, Tokoza Transnet, Swart, correctional services, EMPD, Department of Education and dog units from both SAPS and EMPD.
He said stakeholders started with a parade at Katlehong Tennis Court next to Katlehong SAPS, where Brigadier Albertina Vesi, Katlehong South SAPS station commander, briefed everyone before they commenced with the operation.
“KSCP coordinator Sergeant Nkonkoane led the group to both Eketsang and Sijabulile secondary schools where various drugs were confiscated including a big knife that was found abandoned in one of the classrooms by the school principal.
“As a result of the search, one local drug dealer was visited and found red-handed selling dagga. He was placed under arrest. All seized properties will be kept at Katlehong Sap13 store awaiting to be destroyed,” said Mtwa.
The arrested suspect will appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
