The Ekurhuleni Masters League allows retired players to continue playing soccer. The league unites all soccer lovers.
The coach of Palm Ridge Masters, Isaac Maphalele, said he was elated with his team winning the EMLSC.
“In three years, we have collected three cups as Palm Ridge Masters; we have won the league for two seasons and secured the Super Cup.
“We have been in the Ekurhuleni Masters League for three years and made a good impact. At our disposal, we have excellent players; some of them have played soccer at a professional level and that makes us a good team,” Mapalele mentioned.
A player of Palm Ridge Masters, Dimpho Mochochoko, said his team deserved to win the Super Cup because it has been playing well in the league.
“We have won the league this season and in the previous season, but this is our first time winning the Super Cup.
“We have also qualified to play in the Gauteng Development Championships. We have played there before, but this time we want to do well in the tournament,” said Mochochoko.
The chairperson of the Ekurhuleni Master’s League, Bongikosi Sityebi, said the league has two streams, divisions A and B.
“Today, the teams from streams A and B were playing against each other. The team that won stream A, Palmridge Masters and the one that won stream B, Team SA, played against each other.
“The runner-up teams of divisions A and B also played against each other. This league has been operating for over a decade, and has been improving,” Sityebi explained.
He added the league promotes sociality and strong bonds among veteran players.“Currently, we are going into off-season. The league will resume on October 13, and when that starts, we would love to have more veteran teams in the league.
“We encourage more veteran teams to come and join the league. Only players 35 and older can play in the league,” he concluded.
