Katlehong SAPS support service visits adopted school for a pep talk

Support Services Commander, Colonel Phakama Gcaza, accompanied by sector managers for all four sectors in the region, visited Thembalethu Primary in Mavimbela Section.

Learners attended an assembly where they were informed about safety tips should they find themselves in difficult situations. The talk was well received by the youth.

Gcaza said, “As your granny-cop, I decided to visit you today because on the first day of your school opening, I was not going to cope to see some of you crying. But, the year has started and that means you are getting closer to going to big school. I am here to ask you not to bully anyone nor steal each other’s stationery.”

The principal and staff were excited to host Gcaza. The visit aimed to motivate learners and educate them about human rights and equality.

Concluding her visit, Gcaza said the police still vehemently discourage parents or any adult from threatening young children by calling the police on them. Gcaza said such threats are not helping to discipline a naughty child, but instilling fear of the police in a child.

“Such threats do not help the child but may cause fear and trauma to those innocent kids who get even more afraid when they see a marked police vehicle passing by.”
