Local artist nominated for 10th annual SAUMAs

On the verge of taking a break from music, Joy ‘DopeFlop Music’ Mkhwanazi was thrilled to be nominated in the 10th annual SAUMAs for the first time.

Just after Siyabangena found its way into DopeFlop Music fans’ hearts, the artist received news of his nomination in the 10th annual SAUMAs.

The South African Upcoming Musicians Awards (SAUMA), conceptualised by Huvera Entertainment, honour emerging performers for excellence in the music industry.

The awards, founded in 2008, aim to seize commercial and financial opportunities, generate jobs, and assist formerly underprivileged musicians to integrate into the media and mainstream economic activities.

Joy Mkhwanazi, better known as DopeFlop Music, is a well-liked Thokoza musician. He started playing music at 12, and a year later, started recording in a studio and has not looked back since.

He is nominated for the best feature category in the SAUMAs.

DopeFlop Music released the single Siyabangena late last year alongside The Voshorist and Taminology.

According to DopeFlop Music, his single is a joyful summer tune that emphasises the idea that you should choose to be happy now rather than wait for life to get easier. He said you might have the time of your life while keeping things simple.

“The nomination came when I was still considering taking a slight break from music due to other commitments. I am more than happy knowing my music is recognised by such entities as SAUMA. This serves as a guarantee that my hard work is appreciated in the industry,” DopeFlop Music said.

He has shared stages with several chart-topping artists, such as Big Zulu (real name Siyabonga Nene, the Nkabi Records founder), Musiholiq, Mduduzi Ncube, Lwando Buso, and Silo Magolide.

Thokoza artist DopeFlop Music has been nominated for best feature category at the SAUMAs, for his single titled Siyabangena.

The celebrity told Alberton Record that music had taught him time management techniques. He started playing music in elementary school, and to meet his parents’ expectations and his own, he struck a balance between academics and music.

“We were coming from a music video shoot when my producer, The Voshorist, Taminology and I composed the song. We began freestyling to the beat my producer was playing while we were driving home. We then decided to record the song in a studio the next week and named it Siyabangena,”

DopeFlop Music said people jumped onto the #SiyabangenaChallenge on social media platforms (Instagram and TikTok), with over two million views streaming to the song. The star advised everyone to always work hard for what they believe in because hard work pays off.

“Your dreams will come true if you give everything you have into whatever you are doing. Aspirations and ambitions must begin somewhere, and taking that first crawl or step brings you one step closer than before. Even the smallest actions and steps are significant,” he concluded.
