Awards put spotlight on clap n tap

“The winner will walk away with R5 000 for each category and R10 000 for the finest choir of the year, finest album of the year and finest clap-n-tap song of the year.”

Mmino Wa Clap N Tap Awards (MWCNTA) will host its eighth award ceremony in the Kathorus informal settlement to support and promote that economy.

Artists, stakeholders, supporters and partners can join the eighth MWCNTA at Hurricanes Lifestyle, 104 Nota Street, Phake Section, Katlehong, on October 27.

The chairperson of MWCNTA, Moses Gama, said this was the first time in the history of MWCNTA that the awards would be at Hurricanes Lifestyle.

“It will help ignite and create job opportunities for our people. For example, people from the venue will work on that day to serve us. There are also designers, MCs, DJs and choirs.

“We will have others as we continue engagements with them. We want to ensure we instil and promote collaborations between our other artists and MWCNTA artists,” said Gama.

He said they had received more than 350 nominations, and the window had closed.

“The nomination applications are already in. The nominees will be announced on June 30, and we will release SMS codes and voting line details. Fans will be charged R2 for each voting SMS.

“The winner, who has fully paid the registration fee, will walk away with R5 000 for each category and R10 000 for the finest choir of the year, finest album of the year and finest clap-n-tap song of the year.”
